The first five years of a child's life are fundamentally important. They are the foundation that shapes children's future health, happiness, growth, development and learning achievement at school, in the family and community, and in life in general.
The program planning for my dayhome / daycare is developed according to children’s interest and developmental needs. Through My Early Childhood Education Studies and my natural inclination towards being a responsive and nurturing caregiver, my goal is to support children’s early childhood developmental needs: emotional maturity, social competence, language and thinking skills. physical health and well being. In these early childhood developmental stages they are the most vital.
I believe that a no-screens ( to limited) , play-based, small-group family dayhome program, with a strong emphasis on stories and quality children's literature gives most young children the best chance of doing well in school and in life.

I am a licensed Caregiver with CPR / First aid training + over 10 years experience in the Childcare field, available references of current and past families I’ve provided care for.

My dayhome's schedule is flexible to accommodate the needs of the children and families I currently have in care. Nap times, and variable drop-off and pickup times are the main factors influencing the schedule. After that, the children's preferences and interests are the main factors shaping what we do!
Besides meal and snack times, my daily schedule always includes the following:
- story times, both reading and storytelling
- music (singing together, playing instruments, exposing children to a variety of quality music on cd, dancing to a youtube playlist of children's favourite songs)
- free play, supervised and facilitated by me
- outdoor play - we try for at least an hour a day, except on the coldest and windiest days
- activities that I plan in response to the children's interests
- spontaneous activities according to what the children want to do that day
- personal care routines like diapering, going potty,and handwashing
- naptimes for children under 3 and a quiet time in the afternoon for older children
- open-ended art experiences and experiments
Informal meeting times where we talk about things we have done and plan together what we want to do next

The methods I rely on include offering choices, setting limits, anticipating child needs, assisting children to calm themselves, providing explanations, redirection, natural or logical consequences, distraction or offering an alternate activity, positive reinforcement, and recognizing differences in developmental levels.
I do NOT use "time outs", but do sometimes use variations of "time in," providing extra supervision and support to children who are having difficulties getting along with others. I often support children who are finding play situations stressful in choosing a different activity or toy or play partner for a time.
I make my primary child guidance focus with the children on all of us being safe, gentle and kind with each other, building empathy, and giving children the words and tools they need to express their feelings and to solve common problems, such as toy-sharing

Children spending a full day at my dayhome in Strathcona Park are served a minimum of 2 snacks with 2 food groups, and hot lunches.
My dayhome serves fresh, high-quality food, whole grain breads and an increasing amount of organic and locally-grown food as well, especially fruits and vegetables.
I will serve lots of water, milk, and follow the Canada Food Guide to Healthy Eating as much as possible.
